_ New Book: Danish guide to global family life

• Danish globetrotter Lena Lauridsen and Line Mørkbak/cultureCrossing have joined forces and written an inspirational guide for Danish families living internationally. The book ‘Verden Kalder - inspiration til en global hverdag’ (The World is Calling – inspirations to global daily life) deals with the many questions asked and the preparations needed when a family decides to try an international adventure. Topics on how actively to seek a dialog with the assigning employer, loss of identity for traveling partner, travel with kids, pregnancy and child birth abroad, security concerns, choice of local or international school, how to develop an professional identity in a new culture, the importance of social and professional networks, how to support children’s Danish identity and language abroad and what to be aware of when returning back to the native passport country again.

A series of geographic areas (China, India, Bulgaria, South Africa, USA, Brazil and Oman) are portrayed in terms of the cultural and religious traits of the regions. The authors’ own experiences are enriched and magnified through a series of portraits of Danes telling about their daily lives in different parts of the world. 103 international Danish families have been interview in the research for the book and a series of mobility experts have supplemented the book with their professional advice. ‘Verden Kalder’ will be launched May 26 in Copenhagen.
